This summer I have become obsessed with candles. I have tried several different brands, sizes, and scents. I'm actually burning a lemon tart as I type this post!
I consider myself well connected on the internet and I thoroughly enjoy reading other bloggers' posts. While browsing my blog feed in google reader I came across a product called Diamond Candles and I was intrigued.
Diamond Candles are all natural soy candles that are made with a surprise inside. The candles range in scents inspired by everything from pretty flowers to yummy desserts. My favorite part about these candles are that each Diamond Candle has a hidden ring somewhere inside.
I love Grab-bags. I have always been more interested in the surprise of not knowing what your getting. The ring idea really caught on with me. Diamond candles puts a beautiful ring in every candle. The value of the ring can be anywhere from $10 to $5,000.
I was a little skeptical at first. Does the company really give away a $5,000 diamond ring in a $25 candle? The answer is yes! If you search diamond candle on youtube or even on google you will find customers who have been lucky enough to find that holy grail candle.
I decided that I needed to try a diamond candle. I of course was hoping that I would be that lucky winner of expensive jewelry. I also wanted to see if the actual candle could compare to the other candle brands I had been trying all summer.
I chose to review a honeysuckle candle. Honeysuckle is not usually the first scent I choose when I want to buy candles but at the same time its refreshing and smells lovely. The Diamond Candle honeysuckle scent is hands down the best honeysuckle I have ever smelled. Its floral but also somewhat sweet. It reminds me of gardens and summer!
The diamond candle is actually quite large at 21 oz. When I received my candle I was slightly dissapointed. The company marks where the ring is hiding and some people are lucky enough to have a candle close to the surface. Unfortunately my ring was hiding deep into the candle which meant that I was going to have to patiently.
An interesting thing to note about Diamond Candles is that the candle doesn't burn like other brands' candles. The wax from a Diamond Candle gets oily when melted and does not harden as quickly as other candles. There is no advantage either way, I was just not expecting the greasy texture of the wax.
My Diamond Candle was highly scented and took a very long time to melt. These in my opinion are extremely good characteristics in a candle.
Now to the fun part.... the reveal!
|See how deep my ring was!|
I couldn't wait to see my ring so once I got close enough I caved in and wrestled my ring out of the wax.
I used a tweezer as my weapon of choice. The ring is wrapped around in tinfoil and then another little bag so it is secured and will not touched by the wax.
My ring is so pretty! Unfortunately it was not a real diamond ring but for costume jewelry this is very good quality. I also think I lucked out with this simple ruby design.
Now onto the nitty gritty.
Pros of the Diamond Candles: I love the candle scent and the size. The jar itself is a nice shape and does not take up too much room. The ring quality was great and the price point is right on for a ring-and-candle combination.
Cons: I think the ring should be closer to the top of the candle. Its just too hard to stay patient with such a long burning candle. The only complaint I really have however is that you should be able to specify your ring size when ordering the candles. I am a size 8 and my ring is between a 6-7 so it doesn't fit like I would prefer it too.
I would recommend these candles for someone who has a standard 7 ring size and likes surprises! The scents are also amazing and the quality of the wax is impressive.
